Soak Yee believes that physical health links closely to mental health. She believes the role of a physiotherapist is to facilitate patients to reach their physical goals and needs and to provide patients with the encouragement and knowledge so that they feel empowered in their own recovery journey.
What differentiates Soak Yee as a physiotherapist is that she takes the time to understand the patient as a whole person (goals/ lifestyle/ environmental/mental status) and is therefore better positioned to identify potential contributing factors to the patient’s current physical state.
Each person is unique and Soak Yee provides a hands on individualised experience to assessment and therapy which combines various treatment techniques such as manual therapy, dry needling, joints mobilisation and exercises therapy to target the various muscular weakness/ control issues identified and get the patient moving better again.
Soak Yee has more than 17 years of working experience as a physiotherapist, with 8 years spent in a hospital musculoskeletal outpatient unit. Her extensive experience enables her to manage musculoskeletal conditions across the spectrum from acute, post-operative to chronic, with a special interest in the management of golf injuries, knee and shoulder dysfunctions. As the senior lead for the peripheral team, she has worked with orthopaedic surgeons in the review and update of rehabilitation protocols (e.g. shoulder repair, knee replacement, ACL reconciliation).
Other Achievements and Professional Experience
Soak Yee actively participates in sports screening events (swim team, NAFA dances, junior golfers @ Singapore Sports School, Her World Golf competition, Sundown Marathon) and gives back by volunteering her services to the community and the underprivileged.
Co-authored a systematic review titled “Midterm effectiveness of extracorporeal shockwave therapy in the manage of chronic calcific shoulder tendinitis” in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery in 2010/2011, and was involved in research studies on the outcomes of GolfFit and spinal exercise programs.
A believer in continual professional development, Soak Yee regularly presents workshops and seminars to her peers and the public, and was recognised as an Outstanding Clinical Educator for NHG Allied Health Professional in 2013 and 2014. She was also awarded scholarship for post graduate study in Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy by TTSH in 2009 and the NHG Allied Health Scholarship in 2002.
